Our Family Vacation to Chicago

It has been a coupleyears since our family has taken a holiday, principally due to tightening our belts like so many other people are doing due to the economy. My sister’s son and my only nephew asked his girlfriend to wed him and that is’s all it took! We found out the day of the wedding, my husband and I both had paid vacation time coming from work so we made a decision to make the trip and make it a holiday as well. So when it came time we packed out bags, loaded everything up and hit the road.

This was no tiny road trip. It is almost 1200 miles back to my childhood home town in IL so there would be a lot of hours spent on the road. Unfortunately not all of our issues got left behind at home. After several hours of driving the 1st day I had started sensed some lower abdominal pain. To be completely truthful I believed it was a mix of being anxious, excitement and maybe just sitting for too much time. But by the end of our first day my discomfort had become more intense. When we stopped for the night I tried to unwind and stretch out some, praying that it might improve, but there wasn’t any change. It was so bad I though we would have to go to a nearest emergency room. I decided to try to get a good nights sleep and make the decision in the morning. Before I went to bed I called my mother to tell her how far we had made it and what was going on. After describing the symptoms I was having and Mom told me she had the very same symptoms the time she was having issues with ovarian cysts. She also told me about some of the different treatment of ovarian cysts and how this one natural remedy worked best for her. So I made the decision to go to the emergency room that night, solely to ensure what was taking place.

I’m certain all of you have experienced visiting the ER at one time in your life or another. Well, the one we visited was exceptionally packed. Let me say this, discomfort or no pain, waiting in a room full of sick and wounded people was not a excellent surrounding. The combination of all these factors really irritated my anxiety. As time went by with folks coming in and out consistently, waiting to be called while experiencing a large amount of agony it was ultimately enough and I started having a panic attack. All I wanted to do was get out of there, discomfort or no pain. I have to confess, if it was not for the help my hubby gave me, along with the skills I learned about overcoming panic attacks I honestly feel I would have walked out. Eight hours later I left feeling slightly better as far as the agony. The anxiety and panic had gotten better and the ultrasound confirmed I had an ovarian cyst. There wasn’t any cause for alarm though I was given a prescription for discomfort if needed, some guidelines on things to steer clear of and told to check in with my family doctor when we got back home.

We made it up to Chicago and during the next few days the agony decreased. I continued feeling a little anxiety, but it was most likely anticipation about what exactly was happening. Actually one night we all gathered together and went out to eat at one of our favorite restaurants. This is the type of food you simply cannot pick up in the south where we live, so we all did some over eating that evening. My hubby went a bit more overboard then he should have. I could tell as he mentioned that he required one of his remedies for heartburn before we even got back to our room. We giggled at it, but the rest of the evening he was in discomfort because of his heartburn and acid reflux.

In looking back it really was a excellent time. The Wedding was perfect and went off without any issues. It absolutely was a event to remember. Actually the whole trip was something to remember. Eventhough it started a little rocky but the time was well spent surrounded by family and friends that we hadn’t visited with in years. That had to be one of the finest vacations the my family and I went on in a very long time.
