The best beach you will ever go to is called Lumahai on the north shore. Parking is on the side of the road and there’s a short walk (less than 0.25 miles) and once you get there you’ll never wanna leave. It’s my favorite beach, I go there and bring all my friends from off island there. Secrets is another hidden beach, but I don’t suggest going there, too many ***** old white people (it’s a **** beach so there are a lot of hippies and stuff), plus the hike is nasty and the trail is hard to find. Polihale is another great beach, miles of white sandy nothingness… It’s all the way at the end of the road on the west side, I highly HIGHLY suggest getting a 4WD rental to get there, normal cars usually get stuck. Other than that, most of the beaches are just pull over and find a spot, especially from the east to the north shore.

I’m not really sure what kinds of other tips you’re looking for, but if you have any other questions feel free to email me.

EDIT: After reading the answer under mine, I’m going to recommend not getting either Kauai Revealed or Best Kauai Guide Book (or whatever it’s called). Both books list lots of unmarked trails and beaches, all of which are very dangerous and should only be ventured by experts who know the land very well (an sometimes not even then). Being born and raised on the island, I’ve seen my fair share of tragedies involving tourists who read the books and thought it would be cool or fun to check out unmarked trails and not made it back. For your own safety, please, just ask a concierge or maybe the guy who works the rec room at the resort.

I have stayed at the Lawai Beach Resort. That was about 8 years ago. Nice place. You will enjoy yourself. Get yourself the book “Kauai Revealed”. Never been steered wrong by this book.
