off season in Hawaii?
grapelady911 asked:
Is there an Off Season for tourists in Hawaii? I would love to go, but I really **** crowds. I know that typically beach resorts and hot vacation spots slow down in t he fall and pick back up in the spring with the peak being summer of course.

When do hotel rates go down? Do different islands have the same off season?
What is the weather like in the off season?

Winter holidays such as Xmas and Thanksgiving are super busy in Hawaii. I was there in June and it was not that crowded. I think that most people travel to tropical destinations in the winter.

Nonpeak season:May, Sept.
Peak season: June, July, Aug.
If you book a trip for May, do it really early in the year (February or earlier).
The weather in May is usually beautiful. There are sometimes when it gets muggy, but usually early May is fine!
I have been there six times. Once in April, once in Sept, and four times in May.

Right around Christmas / New Years, the start of summer (when schools on the mainland get out) and the mainland’s various spring vacation / ski weeks are the busiest times.
My experience is September and October can offer bargains cause the kids are back in school and families are not taking vacations; the three weeks after Thanksgiving is slow cause folks either just came over or are waiting to come over for Christmas.
May can split the winter / summer seasons.

Off season for Hawaii is from the last week in September to the last week in February except for Christmas and new years.
Weather drops by 5 – 10 degrees. Hotel rates are slightly lower, but not by much. Airline costs are much cheaper in the off season. It’s different by island of course, but figure out which island you want to go to and you’ll do OK. Anytime in October or November are good times to go.
