Traveling to Hawaii?

Misti asked:

Planning to go to Hawaii in March but I still do not know where to say. We do want to go to the Island Oahu but there are 2 Resorts that I am not sure about Ko Olina and Turtle Bay Two Friends of mine have recommended Ko Olina but I like that Turtle Bay is on the other side of the island. If anyone could give any advice on where to stay or really any thing good about this island would be great help. Thanks

There are so many wonderful hotels in hawaii, you really can’t go wrong. It’s just a matter of what you want to spend. Most hotels are right on the water, others, across the street, but still in great locations. I’ve pasted a link below for you to look into some great places to stay. But the best part, is all the fun things you’ll be doing, the tours, whale watching and sight seeing. Enjoy your holiday, I wish I was going!

I’m from Oahu, so my accommodation is Turtle Bay for a night or two – to explore the North Shore. Ko Olina is a beautiful resort on the west side of the island and is worth staying there for a night or two as well. If this is your first trip to Hawaii, I would also stay in Waikiki as well. Each area has something different to offer and is unique in its own way. As for activities here on Oahu, we have it all. Hiking, beaches, shopping, snorkeling, and luau’s.

I haven’t stayed at Turtle Bay, but walked through it on a tour of the North shore. There isn’t much to do up there other than pools/beach. It was beautiful & I’d love to stay there for a couple days if I could afford it. I’m not familiar with the other, but would agree with the recommendation to also stay in Waikiki for a while. On our last visit we stayed in a Waikiki hotel for several days & then drove up to Laie & stayed in a small hotel near the Polynesian Cultural Center for a couple of nights.

If you don’t mind moving every few days, I think the idea to spend 2 to 3 nights in Wailkiki, Ko Olina, & Turtle Bay is a good one. Each will give you a very different experience. Turtle Bay is on the north shore & is pretty much in the country. The scenery is beautiful, there are outdoors activites in the area (horseback riding, hang gliding, etc), & Haleiwa is a fun town to browse in. Not really any nightlife though. Ko Olina is pretty much of a resort. You will enjoy being pampered on the grounds of the hotel. There are some very pretty lagoons where you can swim & sun. And Waikiki is … Waikiki. The beach isn’t the greatest, but there are tons of activities, restaurants, clubs, etc.

Turtle Bay won’t be disappoint, only if you want some peace and quiet. It’s far from Waikiki and the nightlife so you want to make sure you’re OK with driving back and forth for the nightlife…but it’s worth it cuz the place is pretty magical. It has a secluded beach, you won’t be bothered by too many tourists, you’ll have enough entertainment just where you are and the restaurants are the best. You can go horseback riding, snorkling and the drive is just beautiful. You’ll be happy.

I know you want to see Hawaii, but you don’t want to be in the middle of all the tourism, dirty water etc. So maybe you should plan on staying in Waikiki for a couple of days just to have experienced it. Moana Surfrider or the Hilton Hawai’ian are great in Waikiki.
